Welcome

Erica Bailey & Art of Dixie

The explanation of this multi-faceted website resides in my own personality.

I am an eternal student of life. Learning new skills and Information is a source of joy on my artistic and personal path.  The goal has always been simply to make a living doing what I love. My passion for circus, dance and the stage tie together all that I propose on this website. The connecting fiber of my eclectic life and by extension the company Art of Dixie is my artist’s heart and my creative soul

Dance is the language I have used to express myself passionately since childhood. I hold BA in Communication from the University of Alabama with a minor in Dance that allowed me to study Graham, Ailey, Bartenieff, and Laban techniques. A scholarship to EDGE Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles gave me the chance to turn my passion for dance into a career. In Seattle, Washington, I found my voice as a dance teacher and choreographer. With the goal of learning French, I moved to Paris and began work as a dancer in cabaret theaters as a Cancan soloist. The Tarzan show at Disneyland Paris gave me the exciting opportunity to learn aerial work

I now have 20 years of career experience with various companies, circuses, cruise ships, gala events, TV shows, and international tours. I have practiced and taught the Gyrotonic method for 20 years and I have extensive rigging experience. I earned French nationality in August 2018 after 15 years of living in France. My passion for sewing began in 2009 and I have delighted in designing and sewing my own costumes for the last 10 years. Art of Dixie was created to bring together my varied skills sets under one umbrella in the desire to give back to the artistic community that has given so much to me.

Art of Dixie ?

I wanted my company to have a name that reflects my American origins as well as my country of adoption. I was born and raised in the state of Alabama. Along with its southern neighbors, this region is collectively known as Dixie.  Alabama’s nickname is the « Heart of Dixie. »  Pronounced with a French accent that tends to leave off the H at the beginning of a word, you get ART OF DIXIE.
